MEDIA ADVISORY – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF TO OPEN TORONTO’S FIRST CENTRE FOR MEN AND BOYS
Provocative Anthropologist Lionel Tiger to Speak at Launch, Highlight Declining Status of Men
TORONTO, ONTARIO — (June 11, 2013) The Canadian Centre for Men and Families (CCMF), a vocal new organization at the centre of controversy for its men’s issues awareness events on campuses, will launch the “Campaign to Establish the Canadian Centre for Men and Families,” on Wednesday, June 12 at 8:00PM at Screen Lounge at 20 College Street in Toronto.
Canadian-born anthropologist Dr. Lionel Tiger, an authority on the cultural study of gender, will speak on the status of males in our society and the urgent need for a space to address the growing problems faced by boys, men and fathers. The Rutgers University Professor contributes to Psychology Today and The New York Times and authored Men in Groups and The Decline of Males.
“Our goal is to raise $50,000 to establish an important new space that fills a huge need and balances existing gender-based resources, advocacy and public education that, while vital, often overlook men and boys,” said Iain Dwyer, CCMF Spokesperson.
The Centre’s busy agenda would include:
* Political advocacy to establish fairness for fathers in our family law courts
* Resources and services to help boys who are currently failed by our education and health-care systems
* Consciousness-raising to confront sexist or anti-male policies, practices and messages whether in our legal system, our workplace, our university departments or our media
“The Canadian Centre for Men and Families will address men and boys on their own terms, providing a focus and scale of activities unlike any other organization in Canada,” said Dwyer.
Interviews may be arranged with Dr. Lionel Tiger or spokespeople from the Canadian Centre for Men and Families.
