Media Advisory – For Immediate Release

Parental Alienation Awareness Day To Be Celebrated at Toronto City Hall Today Noon

Toronto Councillor James Pasternak and prominent child advocates to speak

TORONTO, ONTARIO — (April 25, 2014) Anxiety, depression and even suicide can result when one parent deprives their child of a meaningful relationship with the other parent.

The disastrous effects of parental alienation are now well acknowledged by medical and family law professionals. Today, April 25th, has been declared Parental Alienation Awareness Day by the cities of Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and other Canadian municipalities.

The Canadian Centre for Men and Families (CCMF) will be participating in a flag raising ceremony at Toronto City Hall at noon. Councillor James Pasternak, family law lawyer Brian Ludmer and psychiatrist Dr. Sol J. Goldstein will speak.

“Children are often the collateral damage of the adversarial family court system,” said Robert Samery, CCMF Public Policy Director. “When one parent uses a child as a weapon against their ex-spouse, the child suffers for long periods of time, often for the rest of their life.”

CCMF is a proud supporter of Parental Alienation Awareness Day, an opportunity to reflect and become educated about the behaviours, consequences and remedies of this form of emotional and psychological child abuse.
