Researchers Announce Father Involvement Key Contributor to Health of Kids
Canadian Professor Jess Haines led a study this summer at the University of Guelph that found that parents, and especially fathers, play a key role in the health outcomes of their children, and especially sons.
Date and Time: Thursday, November 17th at 7PM
Location: Canadian Centre for Men and Families
“Much of the research examining the influence of parents has typically examined only the mother’s influence or has combined information across parents… Our results underscore the importance of examining the influence fathers have on their children and to develop strategies to help fathers support the development of healthy behaviours among their children.” – Jess Haines
This supports other recent research such as a University of Michigan July 2016 report that found “Fathers play a surprisingly large role in their children’s development, from language and cognitive growth in toddlerhood to social skills in fifth grade, according to new research.”
Jess Haines is Professor of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition at the University of Guelph
